pub games

More pubs need board games! My friend Laura and I had several games of Connect Four at the Duke of Wellington in Dalston this weekend, and it became more and more fun the more we drank. A fine way to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon.

perfect cheese toastie

Having just watched 'In Search of the Perfect Loaf' on BBC4, I will go to bed dreaming of Trethowan's Dairy's amazing sourdough and cheddar cheese toasties. It's enough to make me want to walk to Bristol for one of those bad boys.

Check out their blog for all things cheesey - http://trethowansdairy.wordpress.com/

oh diana!

Attempt two at using my mini diana, and this time they are all over-exposed rather than under. Confusing. I quite like some of them though, especially the horse - he posed for me and he should be proud.

polaroid playing part II

Here's the photograph James took of me with his Polaroid (see earlier post). I love the blood red colour.

repetition, repetition

These images are inspired by Stephen Gill's projects such as 'Hammer and Blackberry' - his website features lots of his portfolio, and it's pretty cool.

I photographed a teabag in different stages of being pulled apart, then printed these images and re-scanned them - I really like the worn effect it's produced.

"oh my god, it's really bad, it's really bad"

I'm not entirely sure what it is about me that makes me so accident prone, but over the course of my 27 years so far, I have managed to do myself all sorts of damage. Everytime I start talking about my injuries, people laugh and say I should write a book. But maybe just a list is entertaining enough...

> two broken wrists, within a year of each other
> one broken collarbone
> torn ligaments and tendons in my ankle
> got the back of my earring stuck inside my ear, which needed to be removed
> concussion and a split hair line from a thrown can of beer at a festival
> viral arthritis (it's true)
> an allergy to said virus causing a terrible rash
> gashed and infected hand from falling on gravel
> swine flu, of course
> and perhaps most seriously, a sliced ankle from a barge trip gone wrong, resulting in stiches and an exciting ambulance ride. The title of this post is dedicated to my friend Ian and his comforting reaction when he saw the wound. Good times!

communicating in diptych

In a class last week, we each had to pick a pair of words out of a hat and then capture each word in a photograph. Mine were logic/disorder.

my scent, my style

My assignment for this week's 'Learning to see in photography' class is to try to define my 'style' of photography, and to then use this to produce a photograph or two that depicts how I think about my favourite perfume. Confused? Me too.

I wear Stella McCartney - make of these what you will.

exploding eggs benedict

Woke up with a massive craving for eggs benedict. Went to Sainbury's to get the ingredients, and some form of egg poaching aide. Ended up with egg all over the inside of the microwave, so resorted to jam on English muffins instead.

Note to self: go to Canteen next time.

wozzy dias

Wozzy Dias has taken some lovely pictures on London Underground, which are now part of London Transport Museum's collection. I wish I had the courage to take pictures on the tube.

polaroid playing

Someone in my 'Learning to see in photography' class brought along an amazing 40 year old Polaroid last week. We used some expired film to see if the mechanisms worked, and it produced some amazing results.

back to the days of film

I decided to buy myself a Diana Mini at Christmas, and it's really changed the way I think about what I photograph. I have only become semi-serious about photography in the last year or so, so joined the digital world as a beginner. I take hundreds of terrible digital shots, but can delete them all without it costing me a penny. Getting my failed Diana attempts back from the printers was a shock to the system.
